With a background in hospitality and as amateur chef, Jan-Maarten has always has been interested in delicious food (not necessarily always good food) and did an occasional run. About 3 years ago, some rare, pretty serious skin disease presented itself and no medicine or treatment helped. So he took drastic lifestyle measures. He started running & training 3 to 5 times a week, became very food & nutrition conscious, lost 30k, finished the half marathon just over 2 hours, overcame the skin issues and feels so much betterJan-Maarten finished 3 more half marathons since then and improved his time by 10 minutes. That success is due to a better training schedule, more discipline (i.e. when to rest), and awareness of what to eat when. The impact of the right nutrients at the right time on training results and health inspired Marco & Jan-Maarten to create Biterunner.
If you run, you are a runner. It doesn’t matter how fast or how far. It doesn’t matter if today is your first day or if you’ve been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run. John Bingham (the pinguin)
Marco is a runner, fencer, and boxer and has been an advocate for a healthy and active lifestyle for quite some time. He discovered a vegan lifestyle when he moved to London with his family. Initially, he became vegan as a response to the way that animals are treated, but he quickly began to realize the enormous health benefits that a plant-based lifestyle brings. London is one of those places where being vegan is not weird, and it’s one of the hottest food trends today. When you think about it, veganism doesn’t exclude anybody. For example, they respect that the cow is holy in some cultures, and they understand that some people won’t eat pork because it isn’t kosher.Marco is also the developer behind the app, The Wonder Weeks, which is another tool that provides you with the right information at the right time.
